From Nature to Pattern

My work begins with observation — of colour, texture, and the shifting rhythms of the natural world. What began as painting has evolved into a collage-led process of pattern.

As a fine art student, I was drawn to the fleeting qualities of nature — light, colour, and atmosphere. Painting became a way of capturing those moments, but I was always searching for something more tactile.

Family life brought me closer to the everyday rhythms of nature — gardening, cooking, and time spent outdoors. These experiences continue to shape both how I live and how I work.

During my Master’s, I began experimenting with hand-painted papers — using ink, paint, and simple techniques to build texture and colour.

As I layered fragments together, something shifted. Shapes began to repeat, colours aligned, and the work moved beyond collage — evolving into pattern.

“Shapes repeat, colours align, and collage begins to evolve into pattern.”

The process continues to evolve — one fragment, one layer, one pattern at a time — always rooted in observation, nature, and making.
